چکیده

Theoretical aspects and evolution of surface diffusion studies are discussed with an emphasis on non-metallic adsorbates at metal surfaces. A survey of the existing literature is presented with the main experimental results tabulated. (The tables and their updates are available online at http://ipent.ep ̄.ch/gr_kern/jv_barth/ SD_tables.html) Conception, theoretical and experimental work on transient mobility in the adsorption of gases on metal surfaces are summarized. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Photochemistry on metal nanoparticles.

The photochemistry of small molecules on well-defined metal surfaces has been the subject of intense research for more than three decades.1 This field is of interest because it rests on the superposition of two influences. On one hand, new reaction channels can become possible by electronic excitation, which are usually not accessible by thermal activation. On the other hand, compared to molecu...

Synthesis of Different Copper Oxide Nano-Structures From Direct Thermal Decomposition of Porous Copper(ΙΙ) Metal-Organic Framework Precursors

Copper oxide nanostructures have been successfully synthesized via one-step solid-state thermolysis of two metal-organic frameworks, [Cu3(btc)2] (1) and [Cu(tpa).(dmf)] (2), (btc = benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate, tpa = therephtalic acid = 1,4-benzendicarboxylic acid and dmf = dimethyl formamide) under air atmosphere at 400,  500, and 600°C. It has also been found that the reaction temperature pla...

Manipulating thermal conductance at metal-graphene contacts via chemical functionalization.

Graphene-based devices have garnered tremendous attention due to the unique physical properties arising from this purely two-dimensional carbon sheet leading to tremendous efficiency in the transport of thermal carriers (i.e., phonons). However, it is necessary for this two-dimensional material to be able to efficiently transport heat into the surrounding 3D device architecture in order to full...

Quantum corrected Langevin dynamics for adsorbates on metal surfaces interacting with hot electrons.

We investigate the importance of including quantized initial conditions in Langevin dynamics for adsorbates interacting with a thermal reservoir of electrons. For quadratic potentials the time evolution is exactly described by a classical Langevin equation and it is shown how to rigorously obtain quantum mechanical probabilities from the classical phase space distributions resulting from the dy...

Ab-initio tensorial electronic friction for molecules on metal surfaces: nonadiabatic vibrational relaxation

Molecular adsorbates on metal surfaces exchange energy with substrate phonons and low-lying electron-hole pair excitations. In the limit of weak coupling, electron-hole pair excitations can be seen as exerting frictional forces on adsorbates that enhance energy transfer and facilitate vibrational relaxation or hot-electron mediated chemistry. We have recently reported on the relevance of tensor...
